BOOK DESIGN
DROP, POWER WORDS, RIVER SINGERS, FROM THE BOOK TO THE STREETS
Book and editorial design is an area I am very confident in. I have completed a range of projects doing both covers and layouts for complex documents.
I have found cover design really enjoyable as it allowed me to be much more illustrative and be creative in the ways in which I can use typography. Layout design became something I would obsess over, creating rules that the whole document follows, only to be broken where needed. I found this an extremely important skill that I have used across many types of documents for a range of uses.

Drop was created as an independent magazine. It explores the world of underground dance and rave culture.
This is one of my favourite design pieces I have done; not only because I was interested in learning about the topic but also I enjoyed creating complex typographical and visual systems which could then be used all across the many pages.
LAYOUT DESIGN

Some example spread pages from Drop.
Part of this project involved printing and hand crafting the whole magazine, these images are photographs taken of the final copy.

From the book to the streets was my first major editorial design project. It included a huge copy, many images, captions and references. Crafting the book was also part of the project, including crafting the cover, accurately cutting all the sheets, and binding the book together all by hand.
COVER DESIGN
I have done a variety of book cover designs, it has really allowed me to experiment illustratively with both typography and image. Whilst I do enjoy illustration and drawing, I cannot often use these skills in my work but these projects have helped me show off this side of my creativity. Both of these examples have been hand illustrated by me; I have used very different styles for each, to suit the audience.
